Dog Friendly Beaches from SoCal to the Central Coast

Dog Friendly Beaches from SoCal to the Central Coast

If you are fortunate enough to live in SoCal or the central coast of California you know that this time of the year is getting to be the best time of the year to go to the beach! The weather is finally cooling down, the beaches are clearing out and it is the perfect time to take you dog to one of our many local dog friendly beaches. Make sure and check the websites for specifics including if your dog needs to be leashed.  I have included some not all as some times the rules change so better just to check before you go to make sure.

San Diego Area Dog Beaches

Del Mar Dog Beach - (Del Mar, Ca)  Del Mar dog beach has seasonal rules so make sure and check them out before going.

Coronado Dog Beach - (Coronado Island, Ca)  This beach is on the oh so pretty Coronado Island not far from the naval base.

Los Angeles Area Dog Friendly Beaches

Leo Carrillo State Park - (Malibu, Ca) Leo Carrillo is located in the northern part of Malibu and it is beautiful!  It's a relatively short but beautiful drive from Santa Monica a bit further if you live in the San Fernando Valley but worth it!. Dogs allowed in day-use areas, campground and North Beach (north of Lifeguard Tower 3). Dogs not allowed on backcountry trails or South Beach (south of Lifeguard Tower 3).  Check out the website for full details.

Rosie's Dog Beach - (Long Beach, Ca) Rosies dog beach is in the Belmont Shores area of Long Beach.  This a a off leash dog beach and a favorite for locals and visitors a like.  Check out the website for more details.

Marina Park Beach - (Ventura, Ca) Marina Park Beach is our favorite beach to visit!  We go there a lot.  It is not only a great beach area but there is also a walking path and a park here.  It also has a bathroom so thats convenient! especially if you bring your own seat covers and toilet paper.  I never leave home with out these, I actually keep some in my car at all times!

Arroyo Burro Beach - (Santa Barbara, Ca)  Arroyo Burro Beach is the only off leash beach in Santa Barbara but if you check out the link there is a page with a few other ideas of how to have fun in Santa Barbara with your dog.

Central Coast Beaches

Pismo Beach - (Pismo Beach, Ca)  Pismo Beach is dog friendly but the Pier is not.  I have linked the Experience Pismo page and it has lots of details on beaches that are dog friendly and things to do.  I love pismo! Make sure and stop by Splash for some clam chowder to go, (because you don't want to leave your dog in the car) and enjoy by the beach.  It is delicious!!

Spooners Cove - (Located in Montana De Oro Park - Los Osos, Ca) Spooners cove is the only place in the park that is dog friendly but it s a beautiful drive to ge there and the beach is beautiful.

Coleman Park Beach - (Morro Bay, Ca) This is one of my favorite beaches! we go there all the time when we are in town.  It's right by Morro Rock and let me tell you if you have never seen Morro Rock it is stunning.  You do have to have your dogs leashes here but is a magical beach that you and your dog will love walking on.  While you are there go walk to the back of Morro Rock it is pretty cool to see.

Torro Creek Dog Beach - (Morro Bay, Ca) Torro Creek dog beach is located in north Morro Bay.  Perfect for off leash fun! Bella and I love to come here when it's early and fewer dogs.

Cayucos State Beach - (Cayucos, Ca) Most of the beaches in Cayucos are dog friendly that I know of but I have linked the SLOCal where you can find more info.

I also have a blog about what to do, where to eat and places to stay when visiting the central coast you can check it out here!

Do you have a dog friendly beach you think I should add?  Let me know!

I love this!!! I want to bring Tucker and Vinny and a few other dogs to a beach in Ventura because it’s technically the closest place to us. I will go to Marina Park 💛 Thank you for this great blog!
